In 1999, Creston School started doing an auction at the end
of the year. We did it consistently for many years but have decided to take a break from doing it.
We usually
connected it into our yearlong character trait that we focus on.
Other times, we based it solely on AR. The students saved their
AR points throughout the year in order to spend them (through
bidding) at the auction.
The teachers and staff contacted as many local businesses and parents.
Local businesses that don't have toys or candy or anything that
would appeal to children often make cash donations ranging from
$10-100. With the cash donations, purchases were made.
The prizes ranged from small to large items: Some examples were
cans of soda, CD's, gift certificates from restaurants or other
vendors, toys, stuffed animals, etc.
On the last full day of school (in combination with our Play Day
activities) we had the auction.
Mrs. Rueff usually acted as the auctioneer when she was here. The students sat in
the bleachers and made bids. The younger students were paired up
with an older student to be sure they didn't get lost in the shuffle!
It it our goal to always keep things fresh and new at Creston School so that our students stay motivated and excited. Therefore, we have taken a break from the Auction and will resume it again sometime.
