PUPIL SERVICES/SPECIAL EDUCATION

The Creston School staff is complemented by, and works in cooperation with, additional professional support staff from the Ogle County Special Education Cooperative located in Byron. Parents will be apprised of any plan of action and will be asked for their support and participation in the implementation of the plan. If the interventions do not produce the desired results, other plans of action may be warranted and may require some comprehensive forms of testing and assessment. The school staff is always available to discuss these options with parents/guardians.

The following Ogle County Educational Cooperative staff will be available to serve Creston School District for 2005-2006:

·        Director of Special Education:  Michael L. Noble

·        Psychologist:                                        Diane Frevert

·        Speech/Language Pathologist:  Louise Erhardt

·        Physical Therapist:                               Marian Drewitz

·        Occupational Therapist:                       Shari Martin

All children receiving special education services must have an annually developed plan (IEP) indicating the educational program developed to meet the specific educational needs identified for that child.

Title I Reading Support - Students who do not qualify for special education services may gain additional help in reading from the Federal No Child Left Behind Program which provides help in reading by a qualified reading teacher. Students are screened each year and must meet the federal guidelines to qualify for services.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All Creston School students are expected to participate in the Physical Education Curriculum and Program.

All students are required to have a separate pair of gym shoes for use on the gym floor. The shoes are to have soles that do not mark on the gym floor (no black soles). A line of beads will be strung on the lowest lace by the teachers so a quick check can be made at each gym class.

Grades 5-8 students are required to wear the school gym uniform available through the school office. The complete uniform (shirt and shorts) is $16.00. The gym uniform will only be worn during gym class. Students will be issued a gym locker and lock for their gym equipment.

***NO BLACK SHOES ARE ALLOWED ON THE GYM FLOOR***
