CCCSD #161
Proper and appropriate behavior is expected of every student so that classroom time can
be spent in productive learning and meaningful interaction. Classroom rules must be obeyed as established for each grade level. They will be posted in each room. Each
infraction of these rules by a student may bring a detention of 30 minutes. Behavior
detention time will be accumulated. Parents/guardians will be notified prior to the student serving the detention.
A “DETENTION” is served out-of-school time in a supervised classroom. After
a detention time is finished, parents are required to provide transportation.
A “DETENTION” slip not returned signed or time not served will result in a
detention time doubled. The next step is a five-hour.
A “FIVE-HOUR” is equivalent to a one-day in-school suspension. It is served for
one hour a day after school for five consecutive scheduled detention days. No
detentions are served on Fridays.
Classroom Discipline Procedure:
Name on board.............................................. Warning
Second infraction in same day……………..30 minute school detention
Third infraction in same day……………….Additional 30 minutes
Fourth infraction in same day………………Five-hour
Gum chewing will result in an automatic 30-minute detention.
The classroom teacher will keep a journal containing detention time given and served.
Behavior detention time will be spent as prescribed by the detention supervisor. If a
student accumulates 150 minutes of behavior detentions, a five-hour detention will
be served.
After the accumulation of three individual “five-hour” sessions (total of
15 hours), the next infraction will warrant an out-of-school one-day suspension.
It would then follow to a three-day out-of-school suspension and a five-day
out-of-school suspension. Students will not be allowed to go on any field trips for
the balance of the year after the accumulation of 15 hours of detention time.
Students will not be allowed to participate in any school activity (including athletics) on
any day while serving the five-hour detention time. All required detention times must
be fulfilled prior to participation.
In making a decision relative to the type of consequence that should occur for non-conformance to rules and regulations, the administration follows four points:
1) the severity of the offense,
2) the habitualness of the offender,
3) the attitude of the offender,
4) the age of the offender.
