My name is Mrs. Herbert, and I’m the 6th grade teacher. I have been teaching school for over 20 years. I started my career teaching 6th grade, then taught 7th and 8th for a couple of years. I also spent five years teaching 2nd grade, but am happy to be teaching my favorite grade again for the last several years. When I’m not at school, I love to spend time with my family. My husband Carl and I have three grown children. Ryan and his wife Lexa are the parents of three little girls: Katrina, Mikayla, and baby Sydney. Ryan is a computer software engineer. Our daughter Shawna has her degree in elementary education and also library science, but is now staying home to take care of another one of our granddaughters, Jenna. Her husband is a veterinarian, doing a residency in neurosurgery in Texas. Our other daughter Laura is the director of youth services at the public library in Joliet. Her husband is an artist for the Joliet Public Art program. They are the parents of our granddaughters Bethany and Elena. I love to teach 6th grade because I see students who catch a glimpse of what they can achieve. We study ancient Egypt, make gingerbread houses on an assembly line, make inventions, study sound and light, do creative presentations on the Greeks and Romans, read hundreds of books and so much more! I believe all students can learn. It’s my job to convince them of that! Once they believe it, we all work together to achieve great things in 6th grade. |
